SAIT International Education Week

As taiko players, we often participate in multi-cultural events, and I think my favourite part is watching the other performers.

International Education Week at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) was held in a huge brick and stone foyer, and the sounded echoed like crazy. As we waited for our turn to perform, we watched a First Nations dance. It was a single male dancer, and the drumbeats of his music were mesmerizing. I regret that I don't know the name of the artist or of the dance, but I quite enjoyed it.

It was a challenge to play taiko in the venue, but we did very well, considering! The sound of the shimedaiko was nearly completely lost into the space, so it was difficult for the chu players to hear it. We did a new version of the Build section in Dokokara, and I think it was my favourite version yet.
