Taiko school programs are a great way for students to learn about Japanese culture and music.

Lectures or taiko demonstrations can be performed in school music rooms or gymnasiums. (Regular classroom settings aren’t recommended due to the volume of taiko, disturbing nearby classrooms)

Interactive, hands-on workshops and longer residencies can offer students the experience taiko for themselves, and learn proper taiko technique and repertoire. Practice drum workshops can also be included, for students to use for learn on.

What educators are saying:

“We had been looking for a way to introduce grade 8 students to Taiko drumming to help bring their Japan unit to life.   Going to Mount Royal University was the right choice.  The facility, technology and number of drums made for an outstanding experience for kids. Paula and Holly had students riveted as they brought to life Taiko drumming.  Students learned so much and made meaningful connections to their classroom learning.  As they returned to school, students shared that it was one of their favorite field trips.  We look forward to offering this most interesting, hands on experience for our students each year.”

“North Point School was thrilled to have the opportunity in partnership with the Conservatory at MRU to have our junior high students learn Taiko. Sensei Paula was an engaging and motivating instructor. She started with the boys at square one, zero taiko experience, and had them performing an amazing winter concert performance. Combining music and movement was outstanding for our boys! One of our students loved it so much, he continued to take Paula’s taiko classes privately and is performing at the Calgary Stampede.”
